Glossary

  • Evaporative Cooling -- The process of cooling an object, typically the surrounding air, by the exchange of latent heat and water, a process also known as evaporation.
  • Adiabatic Cooling -- The direct evaporative cooling process, where the temperature of the air is reduced without the addition or subtraction of thermal energy (heat).
  • Down Time -- The amount of time lost or wasted when the air-conditioning unit stops functioning because of non-scheduled problems, such as failures and delays.
  • Dry Bulb Temperature (db)-- Degree of heat measured with a regular thermometer without the consideration of humidity.
  • EZ-Frame™ -- A patent-pending innovative framing system that attaches magnetically to existing air conditioning units, and integrates an environmentally controlled spray technology and a mesh filter pad to create a micro-environment in which air is cooled before it enters an HVAC unit.
  • Filter Pad -- The screen which air is sprayed with water, allowing air to be cooled as it hits air conditioner coils.
  • Head Pressure -- The expression of pressure in terms of the height of the fluid. High head pressure occurs when the condenser pressure is higher than it should be at a specific load condition.
  • HVAC System -- Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems that regulate the air temperature in a building.
  • KW -- kilo-Watt; 1,000 Watts, also known as a measure of power.
  • Latent Heat -- The heat energy needed to change the state of a substance, such as a liquid to a gas. Can be referred to as the heat absorbed by the evaporated moisture.
  • Peak Energy -- The time period of highest demand for electrical energy. Peak energy times differ throughout the states. Some states offer credit for reducing energy consumption during these highest hours.
  • Pre-Cooling -- The process of cooling air before reaching coils or being pumped into the building.
  • Relative Humidity -- The ratio of the amount of water vapor actually contained in the air to its full water vapor capacity.
  • SmartSpray™ control panel -- A patent-pending electronic control panel which monitors the environment and temperature to ensure water is sprayed at the optimum time and temperature.
  • Temperwrap™ cooling process -- A patented technology that takes domestic water and refrigerates it by passing it over the suction line of the operating compressor, lowering the water by 20 degrees.
  • Tonnage Capability -- Refers to the calculation of the possible volume of the unit.
  • Unit Life Cycle -- The amount of time from implementation of the cooling system until it finally stops working.
  • Wet Bulb Temperature (wb) -- Degree of heat measured when a water surface is attached to the thermometer, also known as the temperature that results when water evaporates and cools the sensor.
